The Heroin Solution
by Arnold S. Trebach, Ph.D., J.D.
ABOUT THE BOOK:"Eloquent and persuasive." -The New York Times
"A blockbluster." -Publishers Weekly
This is the story of one of the world's most feared drugs. Based upon a probing exploration of hidden facts about heroin, it includes a comparison of how it is dealt with in America and Britain. The initial release of this book by Yale University Press evoked a flood of positive reviews around the world, along with debate about the propriety of prescribing heroin to addicts. The practice was not adopted in America, but continued in Britain. Hopefully, this new edition from Unlimited Publishing LLC will provoke renewed debate on all aspects of the failed American-led war on drugs, including the continuing prohibition of heroin in medical practice, for cancer patients and addicts alike.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Arnold S. Trebach, Ph.D., J.D. is a professor emeritus of American University, an attorney, an author of award-winning books such as The Great Drug War (Macmillan Publishing, 1987; updated in 2005 by Unlimited Publishing LLC), and a legendary drug policy pioneer. He founded the Drug Policy Foundation in 1986 and led it until 1997, work that resulted in his consideration for a Nobel Peace Prize. Trebach has been called the "Father of the Modern Drug Policy Reform Movement," the "Shadow Drug Czar," and much less favorable appellations by opponents. His peripatetic research for this book was an essential part of his own education that allowed him to launch rational reform strategies, grounded in reality.
The Great Drug War
"This controversial study is likely to be widely discussed." -Publishers Weekly"...Trebach's proposals are worthy of serious consideration... Highly recommended." -Library Journal
Widely praised as a controversial but thoughtful alternative to drug control policies of its time, the first edition of The Great Drug War was released in 1987 by Macmillan Publishing. More than 20 years later, it is clear that the drug interdiction policies of the 'eighties and 'nineties failed, and that Trebach's alternative proposals deserve a new look from today's perspective.
This new edition from Unlimited Publishing LLC can re-open a long-overdue dialogue between educators, policy makers and health professionals about the reasons why America still faces a drug crisis. It includes a new introduction covering more recent developments in the use of medical marijuana, the relationship between drug trafficking and terrorism, and other fresh new material, renewing an important book for a new generation of readers.
Fatal Distraction
This controversial book reveals why ineffective governmental efforts at drug control divert vital resources from far more pressing areas of national security.
