ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

Harold E. Briggs was chairman of the Department of History at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He was a well-known scholar in the field of Western American History, and his wife, Ernestine Bennett Briggs, was well versed in frontier studies also. They frequently traveled about the area where Nancy Hanks Lincoln lived and died, drawing upon every source of information available (at the time) to accurately portray the background and life of Abraham Lincoln�s mother.
