About the Book: Henry Obookiah is a central figure in the history of Hawaii, and its connection with America: "His dream brought two nations together." Obookiah died in February 1818 and was buried in Connecticut. His memoirs were published after his death. He was reburied in Hawaii in 1993.
About the Editor: Edwin Welles Dwight edited the diary and letters of Henry Obookiah for publication in 1818. The book went through several editions and remained a bestseller for almost a century. Dwight died in 1841.
