ABOUT THE BOOK The role of the sage in the Himalayan Tradition of Yoga is to awaken within the student the divine flame, that spark of divinity all human beings carry within them, and which the late Sri Swami Rama called the Teacher within, the Inner Guru, or Centre of Consciousness. Once that divine flame is lit one truly becomes a disciple on the Spiritual Path. The authors first review the Yoga of the Centre of Consciousness and then describe in depth the nature of the spiritual practice (sadhana) for the new disciple as a metaphor of a chariot with two wheels: dispassion (vairagya) and practice (abhyasa) as described in the first chapter of Patanjali’s Yoga-Sutra, the core text of Raja Yoga. Both wheels must turn together for the chariot to advance. The book presents a unified system based in Raja Yoga that integrates the Yogas of life and discipline on a foundation of meditation suitable for this stage of the Spiritual Path. The book concludes with an exploration of the role of grace in the guru-disciple spiritual relationship. The Chariot of Sadhana is a refreshing and insightful alternative to the common mass approaches to Yoga. It is one of the most in depth and sophisticated explanations of Yoga Dharma today. It provides a clear and authentic presentation of traditional Yoga, including key teachings of the Yoga-Sutra, examined with logic, clarity and insight, faithful to the tradition, the meaning of the text and to an experiential application in sadhana today. The book is one of the best new in depth studies of Yoga as a spiritual practice, an exploration of consciousness and a means of taking us to the highest Self-realization. —David Frawley (Pandit Vamadeva Shastri), Both devoted practitioner and neophyte will be captivated by the yoga teachings brought alive in this road map to the ultimate experience of Presence. Be prepared to mark nuggets of knowledge throughout as you refer to this helpful guide again and again. —Valery Petrich, Founder and Director, Inspiration and Impact! This remarkable book has both. You will find yourself reading and re-reading material not found elsewhere. You will then be inspired to make profound changes that will propel your life forward. Such is the impact. —Mayanne Krech.
