ABOUT THE BOOK:
This book of letters compiled from Alexander Hamiltonís beginning years in St. Croix to his death in 1804 resembles an autobiography he never lived to write. His words give a clear image of what kind of man was behind the public image, despite his many frailties as a human being. This is a rare treat for anyone interested in history, especially history where the life of one of Americaís most important and influential political figures, written in his own hand, makes for exciting reading.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Alexander Hamilton was born on the island of Nevis in the West Indies in 1755, later moving to the island of St. Croix, [now part of the U. S. Virgin Islands] as a young child. His father abandoned his family shortly afterwards and his mother died in 1768. Hamilton left the West Indies in 1772 to attend school and later became an important figure in the early years of the United States of America. He married Elizabeth Schuyler in 1780 and was killed in a duel in July 1804 by Aaron Burr. He is buried at Trinity Churchyard in New York City.
